Plan fence gates, slopes and yard access

Walk the proposed line before choosing panels. Record grade changes and the widest item that must pass through each gate. A gate sized only for everyday foot traffic may block a mower or future maintenance access.

Discuss grade transitions

Ask how the proposed system follows a slope, where panels step or rack, and how gaps beneath the fence will be addressed for your intended use. Avoid assuming a standard panel fits every run.

Make the gate part of the specification

Identify clear opening width, swing direction, latch position and reinforcement. Pool barriers require a separate compliance review; an attractive gate is not evidence of compliance.

Read the aluminum fence installation guide and chain link fence guide for material-specific questions.
